2016 Hugl Zweigelt Rose (Austria)

Despite its relative youth, Zweigelt is actually an Austrian classic. This variety was created in 1922, when Dr. Fritz Zweigelt crossed two grapes - St Laurent and Blaufränkisch. Today, Zweigelt is the most widely planted red variety in Austria, growing in nearly 9% of this country's vineyards. It is a robust grape, highly resistant to dryness, frost and various diseases.The wine offers delicate strawberry, cherry and floral aromas. On the palate it is medium-bodied, lively and refreshing, beautifully balanced. A long and pleasant finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or with any light fare with friends.

Tres Ojos is made at the Bodega San Gregorio, a cave co-op founded in 1965. Local soils are rich in limestone, marl and slate, providing plenty of opportunities to make good wine on a regular basis of which Tres Ojos is a perfect example. This fresh, crisp and juicy Rose is made of 50% Garnacha and 50% Tempranillo. It displays beautiful strawberry and raspberry fruits, medium acidity and a refreshing finish.

The Mönchhof estate dates at least as far back as the 12th century, as evidenced by a document still in the Eymael family's possession, signed by Pope Alexander III, showing the Cloister Himmerod--a Cistercian Abbey--having vineyard holdings in Urzig as early as 1177.And the wines have been popular for a long time, too. At the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, Mönchhof won medals for their wines. These days, the wines reflect the personality of the estate's proprietor Robert Eymael: easy to like, with a sense of style and simple sophistication.

Like biting into a juicy black raspberry, our Cabernet Sauvignon bursts in your mouth with rich varietal flavors that include blackberry jam, boysenberry and hints of cherry licorice. Imbued with silky soft tannins that melt in the mouth, our Cabernet rested in French oak for 16 months, lending deeper notes of cedar, clove and tobacco to the background. Hints of rich, dark chocolate linger on the long, luxurious finish.
